Like a fire, without the heat

So, having lost about 3 years of posts, data and websites, I find myself rebuilding after the wreckage. What do you do when your digital life is suddenly gone?

Laugh, really. There’s nothing else you can do. I told a friend what happened, and said- somewhat inappropriately- that I had “lost everything.”

This friend of mine actually had her house burn down, so as soon as I spoke the words, I tasted Birkenstock. Still, she was unphased and said

It’s like a fire, but without the heat.

Still, faux paux aside, I still feel somewhat downhearted. Entire month long daily entries about life in Zürich, detailed descriptions about our wedding, recipe after recipe of mead and cider creations, and numerous songs, including Jessie’s first album Beginnings.

All lost.

And why? Because your intrepid host is a blithering idiot. I’ll tell you what though, the IT department at Oregon State University were not screwing around. They said I had 6 months from the time I graduate until they drop my account.

On day “6 month + 1″ I was suddenly a virtual non-entity. Or a non-virtual entity… I’m still trying to figure out which.

At any rate, that means I have some rebuilding to do. But never fear, the MettaWiki shall return, only not so much as a wiki as a MettaBlog. It’ll just take some work, considering I’m moving beyond (or rather, beside) MediaWiki to use WordPress. Shifting everything from a wiki to a blog structure will take some time, but I think it’s worth it, since that’s pretty much how I ran the MettaWiki anyway. It just makes sense to switch. I mean, a WikiOfOne has a certain feeling- it feels something like… uh… a blog.

So, WordPress, here I am. Years ago when we had our first fleeting romance, it was not yet to be, but AHH how you’ve grown into such a fine and shapely bit of code. Your extensions make me quiver and your plugins make me…

…ahem. Anyway, The MettaBlog is being rebuilt. With a new name and a snazzy new domain. Stay tuned (and you can, since RSS feeds and social networking connections abound!). I’ll throw in some of the old stuff just to make the archives look good. The dates will be mostly made up, but the general months and years will be good.

Cambot, give me rocket number nine!
